How to download digital files on Etsy
If you're reading this, you are probably frustrated. Trust me, we've been there....You just bought files, and all you want to do is use them with out any issues whatsoever. However, sometimes, you receive an error message, and you have no idea what to do, or what it even means.
Rest assure, this article is meant to help you out when you've tried everything else, and/or you've messaged us during non-business hours.
First, let's cover the easiest part -
How to download digital files on Etsy:
If you have an Etsy account, and you've purchased a digital download, you’ll see a 'View your file's link after you've checked out. Click on that, and it should bring you to a Downloads page. Here, you will be able to download all the files associated with your order.
However, it's important to note that downloads are available once your payment has been confirmed. If you've paid with PayPal or a credit card on Etsy, confirmation sometimes may take a few minutes. However, if for some reason you are receiving a message stating that your "payment is still being processed", please know that we as a shop owner can't do anything to override that. Instead, you will need to contact Etsy directly, here.
Aside from your 'Downloads' page, Etsy will also send you a download notification email separate from any transaction emails you receive from Etsy and/or PayPal. In that email, you will also find a link that you should be able to click on where you can access your download(s) at any time.
I downloaded my files, but all I got was an RTF file...?
Most see this, never open it, and panic because their download doesn't end in .PNG, .JPEG, or .ZIP. The reason we provide an RTF file (Rich Text Format) is because there's a little note in there explaining that due to Etsy's 20MB file size limit, we've had to upload our files to an external platform, in this case, being Google drive. In that RTF file, we include a that specific link that will bring you directly to where you can click to download your files (see below). If you are unable to click the link, simply copy it, and paste into your web browser.
Usually, our Elle P. Studio Paper Sets or Clipart Bundles are uploaded to our Google drive because those are the ones that typically contain multiple high resolution art files. Uploading them to something like Google Drive or a Dropbox is pretty much an industry standard. So, next time you see that your download was just an RTF file, don't think we've scammed you lol -- Yes, we've had someone think this before....lol
The link is not working....
Sometimes, this can happen, so here's what to do:
First, make sure you have network connection (WiFi) Believe me, this has also happened....
If that isn't the problem, try clearing your cache and cookies, and please disable any non-standard add-ons or toolbars that you’ve installed, and try again.
If that doesn't work, restart your computer. (This usually always solves the problem)
If you still are having issues, try switching to an incognito window or to private mode.
Lastly, try using a different web browser or operating system. Here's a useful article with information about browsers and operating systems which supports Google Drive.
